Every journey below is under three hours from Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Inverness. Friday to Sunday is the classic rhythm — a Monday-to-Thursday break works just as beautifully for those who can steal the time.

Short-haul breaks have their own quiet logic. Get the flight time, the departure day and the hotel location right — and a weekend can feel like a week.

Most destinations under three hours from Aberdeen, Edinburgh or Inverness. No lost days in the air, no jet lag at either end.

Friday departures

An afternoon flight on Friday and you gain a whole evening. The single thing that most turns a two-night break into a proper holiday.

Hand luggage only

No check-in queue, no baggage wait, no lost bags. For a two- or three-night break, travelling light changes everything.

Car hire & rail

For European road trips, a hire car gives you freedom. Where rail makes more sense, I'll arrange the tickets as part of your booking.

A few things worth knowing.

Airports

Aberdeen for Amsterdam, Paris and a growing list of European cities. Edinburgh and Glasgow for southern Europe. Inverness for selected routes. I'll always recommend the airport that gives you the best combination of price and schedule.

Timing

Four to eight weeks ahead gives the best balance of price and choice for most short-haul weekends. City breaks get expensive closer to the date, so earlier is kinder to the budget — but I've arranged excellent last-minute trips too.

Multi-city

Amsterdam and Bruges. Rome and Florence. Lisbon and Porto. Internal trains across Europe are fast, affordable and scenic. A one-week trip across two cities often costs less than a single week in one.

How short is a "short-haul" weekend?

Anywhere from two nights to five. Two nights is the classic Friday-to-Sunday break. Three nights gives you a full day in the middle. Four or five nights suits destinations a little further away — Lisbon, Reykjavik, or a multi-city European tour.

Do you book flights, hotel and transfers together?

Yes — everything is arranged under one booking reference. Flights, hotel, airport transfers, and any excursions or dining reservations. You deal with me, not with multiple providers, and everything is ATOL protected.

Can you arrange car hire or rail tickets?

Absolutely. For a Tuscan or Provençal road trip, a hire car is essential. For cross-country travel in Italy, Spain, or Germany, high-speed rail is often the better and more scenic option. I'll book whichever suits your itinerary best.

What about travel insurance?

Short-haul travel insurance can be arranged as part of your booking for a modest additional cost — usually around £15–£25 per person for a weekend. If you already have annual cover, that's fine. I'll always flag what's covered before you travel.

Do you arrange trips for families and groups?

Very much so — short-haul trips work brilliantly for families and small groups. Interconnecting rooms, family suites, and apartment stays are all available, and I'll match the destination to the ages of any children travelling.

Can I combine this with a special occasion?

Yes — birthdays, anniversaries and milestone celebrations are some of the short-haul trips I most enjoy arranging. I'll always ask the hotel to note the occasion, and where possible arrange a small surprise on arrival.
